2021 Jeep Cherokee vs Chevrolet Equinox

When it comes time to get a new SUV, you might find yourself going stir crazy. After all, there are so many makes and models on the market with all kinds of engines and features, so it can be hard to know which one is best for you and your family. Two of the most impressive models on the market are the 2021 Jeep Cherokee and the Chevy Equinox. Both of these SUVs are legendary and come with impressive engines and a ton of amazing features. While there is a lot to like about both of these SUVs, which one has the edge? For the answer, we have put these two SUVs against each other. Continue reading to see which one comes out on top.

2021 Jeep Cherokee Power & Handling

Three mighty engines are available for the 2021 Jeep Cherokee, which should satisfy all sorts of drivers. The first couple of trims come with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 180 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. Going with the Latitude Lux trim brings two powerful options. The first is a 3.2-liter V6 that delivers an incredible 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque. The second is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that kicks out 270 horsepower and a terrific 295 lb-ft of torque. All of these engines pair with a smooth sailing nine-speed automatic transmission and standard front-wheel-drive. Four-wheel-drive is an available option on all trims except the Trailhawk, where it comes standard.

2021 Chevrolet Equinox Power & Handling

There is only one engine available for the 2021 Chevrolet Equinox, which is a little disappointing. All trims come with a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder that pumps out 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque, which pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission. Like the Cherokee, the Equinox comes standard with front-wheel-drive, but all-wheel-drive is an available option on every trim other than the L. With the Cherokee, four-wheel-drive is available on every trim. While the power numbers for the Equinox are acceptable but less than what the Cherokee has to offer.

2021 Jeep Cherokee Features & Design

Five trims are available for the 2021 Cherokee, and there are impressive features to be found on each one. The base trim is the Latitude trim, which comes with power front windows, exterior mirrors with a heating element, supplemental turn signals, courtesy lamps, a rearview camera, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Adding to this is the Latitude Plus, which has heated front seats, premium-wrapped heated steering wheel, remote start, keyless entry, and push-button start. If you're looking for more luxury features, you'll find them with the impressive Latitude Lux trim, which has Nappa leather seats, power front seats with power lumbar adjuster, and a windshield wiper de-icer. If you want more off-road prowess, the Trailhawk has you covered with an advanced all-wheel-drive system, wider wheels and all-terrain tires, and increased ground clearance. Rounding out things is the Limited, which has leather upholstery, an upgraded driver display in the gauge cluster, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen.

2021 Chevrolet Equinox Features & Design

There is one less trim available for the Equinox, but it does come with some interesting features. The first trim is the L, which comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, heated mirrors, keyless entry and ignition, a height-adjustable driver's seat, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Adding to this is the LS, which has rear floor mats, a compact spare tire, and rear privacy glass. The LT adds to this with upgraded headlights, added chrome and body-colored exterior trim, satellite radio, and an upgraded driver information screen. A couple of packages are available for the LT, such as the Confidence and Convenience package, which has a remote engine start, dual-zone automatic temperature control, heated front seats, and a power liftgate. The highest available Equinox trim is the Premiere, which adds 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, and a wireless charging pad.

Conclusion:

While there is a lot to love about both of these SUVs, we will give a decisive victory to the 2021 Jeep Cherokee. The Cherokee's engine options are more powerful, and the six trims of the Cherokee provide you with more features than the Equinox's four.
