2019 Jeep Cherokee vs 2019 Honda CR-V near Chicago, IL

Have you been looking for a new SUV and not sure what to get? Well, two that we can wholeheartedly suggest are the 2019 Jeep Cherokee and the 2019 Honda CR-V. However, if that doesn't narrow things down enough for you, we can try comparing what each has to offer, which might things a bit easier to choose between. So follow along and we'll try to figure out which would be the best for you.

2019 Jeep Cherokee Power & Handling

The 2019 Jeep Cherokee offers the choice between three powertrain options as options across the majority of its trims. Standard for the Cherokee is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that runs on 180 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque. The first of the other two options is a 3.2-liter V6 and its 271 horsepower and 239 pound-feet of torque. The final option is a 2.0-liter turbo engine that reaches 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. All three engine options come standard with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The Latitude, Overland, and Limited trims also give the choice between front- or all-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is standard for the Trailhawk trim.

2019 Honda CR-V Power & Handling

The 2019 Honda CR-V comes with two powertrain options, one less than what the Cherokee offers. While each are fine choices, they are also locked to your chosen trim level. For the LX trim, the CR-V comes with a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine paired with front-wheel drive and a continuously variable automatic transmission that together put out 184 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. For the EX trim and above the CR-V comes equipped with a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that runs on 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque for a bit more power that matches the Cherokee's standard engine.

2019 Jeep Cherokee Features & Design

The 2019 Jeep Cherokee comes with five very well equipped trims to pick from, ensuring that there will always be a version with the features that you happen to be looking for. The basic Latitude trim is standardly equipped with 17-inch wheels, smartphone integrations, automatic xenon headlights, a 6-speaker audio system, folding rear and front passenger seating, a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, USB port, and rearview camera. The Latitude Plus trim adds keyless ignition, two more USB ports, insert leather upholstery, push-button start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, passive keyless entry, and satellite radio. At the Limited trim level, the Cherokee gains 18-inch wheels, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, rear cross-traffic alert, heated steering wheel, blind=spot monitoring, heated front seats, rear parking sensors, an upgraded driver information display, and leather upholstery. For the top trim, the Overland, the Cherokee gains a unique body-colored exterior, HD radio, cornering lighting, an onboard navigation system, sound deadening windows, a nine-speaker audio system, driver-seat memory, sliding rear seating, a leather-wrapped instrument panel, ventilated front seats, and upgraded leather upholstery. There is also the off-road orientated Trailhawk trim, which comes with specialized features like its own unique interior and exterior appearance options, tow hooks, all-terrain tires on 17-inch wheels, skid plates, increased ground clearance, hill ascent and descent control, suspension tuning, and a locking rear differential.

2019 Honda CR-V Features & Design

The 2019 Honda CR-V has four trim levels to choose from, once again one less than what the Cherokee has to offer. The base model trim, the LX, comes fairly well equipped with a 5-inch color display, 17-inch alloy wheels, 4-speaker audio system, LED running lights, a pair of USB ports, a rearview camera, adjustable driver seat, automatic climate control, and cruise control. The EX trim takes things up a bit with heated front seats, remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, 18-inch wheels, a sunroof, fog lights, an upgrade for the driver information display, rear privacy glass, keyless entry, and a retractable cargo cover. The EX-L sees the addition of HD radio, a power liftgate with programmable height, eight-speaker audio system, driver-seat memory settings, auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather upholstery, and a power-adjustable passenger seat. Lastly is the Touring trim, the CR-V's top of the line trim, tops the rest with a subwoofer for the audio system, LED headlights, a navigation system, dual chrome exhaust tips, ambient interior lighting, roof rails, hands-free power liftgate, and automatic wipers.

Conclusions

While each has their own merits, it would seem to use that the 2019 Jeep Cherokee comes out on top between the two. When it comes to power, not only does the Cherokee offer an extra option than the CR-V, but the Cherokee's basic engine option is just as good as the more powerful option available to the CR-V. As for trim, once again there's an extra option to choose, but the features gained by trim just seem more substantial on the Cherokee. So, for a more powerful and customizable vehicle, we suggest the 2019 Jeep Cherokee as your SUV of choice.
