It seems as if many states are experiencing more than their share this season. It's very important to know how to correctly drive in icy and snowy conditions for the safety of your family and to those around you. How does one effectively manage driving when it's snowing?

Unfortunately, there are common mistakes drivers make when the white stuff hits the pavement, but following these simple tips will make the task a little bit easier to manage.

Tip #1 - Don't mistake that your vehicle can handle everything just because you have all-wheel drive. While all-wheel drive is helpful, you must handle the vehicle wisely just as if you didn't have this feature.

Tip #2 - Always be prepared. Even if it looks as if there isn't that much snow, just a little bit with freezing temps can make the roadways hazardous.

Tip #3 - Never follow another vehicle too closely during snow season. A little slip of the ice with a hard tap on the breaks may cause you to slide into the vehicle in front of you.

Tip #4 - Never slam on the breaks while driving in winter elements. Again, this will cause accidents not only to you, but by others around you.

Tip #5 - Give yourself extra time to reach your destination when its snowing. Driving slower and carefully is much better and safer than getting into an accident. Always plan and prepare to leave early to get to your next destination.
